Family Service and Forest Park Neighborhood Interventionists Join 10,000 Communities for ‘Night Out’ Family Services Neighborhood Interventionist Carmel Perrone-Pearson with the Forest Park Police Department joined 10,000 communities nationwide in observing the 21st Annual National Night Out Against Crime on August 3rd. National Night Out is a crime and drug-prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by Forest Park Police Department. In addition to heightening awareness of crime and drug-prevention within the community, National Night Out also strengthens the partnerships between police and neighbors and builds community spirit. National Night Out was observed locally at the Park District of Forest Park. Carmel Perrone-Pearson with Detective Sergeant Aftanas and the Forest Park Police Department are at the core of the Neighborhood Interventionist Program, which works one-on-one with community residents to find solutions to problems that interfere with quality of life. This often includes the resolution of conflicts between neighbors, tenant/landlord conflicts, referral and linkage to appropriate services, as well as reviewing local 911 calls to assess community needs and improve service delivery. The annual observance of National Night Out is an effective means of personally connecting with concerned residents. They will stop to discuss neighborhood issues that they have dealt with, and we inform them of the services that the Neighborhood Intervention Program provides, said Ms. Perrone-Pearson. The 10,000 communities who participated in the observation of the 21st Annual National Night Out Against Crime represented all 50 states and U.S territories, plus Canadian cities and military bases. It is estimated that 34 million people participated in the Night Out.
