Annual Meeting Celebrates Accomplishments, Looks Ahead

Family Service & Mental Health Center of Oak Park & River Forest held its Annual Meeting on November 9th at the Nineteenth Century Club. The Annual Meeting is a way for Family Service to share the achievements of the past year with constituents.

“We are proud of our successes in 2004, and we have worked diligently to achieve them. We consider this a year of accomplishments for Family Service,” said Dan Kill, President & CEO. “We are most proud, however, of the financial stability and security we have achieved. Our careful stewardship of our supporters’ trust continues to create valuable community resources and partnerships. Through our accomplishments, we were better able to serve consumers and continue providing the responsive behavioral healthcare that families have come to expect from us,” Kill added.

Joining the board for 2004-2007 are Angelika Kuehn, Attorney; John McIlwain, Realtor; Deborah Braxton, Marketing Consultant, DB Strategies, LLC; David Stone, Ph.D., Educator, Roosevelt University; and, Barbara Uniek, Retired Rehabilitation Counselor.

River Forest resident Stephen Diamond, co-founder and director of the law firm of Beeler, Schad & Diamond, will continue in his role as board chair. Oak Park resident Brenda Grusecki, retired chair of the English Division at Oak Park River Forest High School, will continue as vice chair of the board. Oak Park resident Michael Lennox, president and owner of Morlen Realty Corporation, continues as board secretary. Jeff Schroeder of Frank L. Sassetti & Co. will continue his duties as board treasurer.

Continuing as members of the board of directors are Linda Brennan, president of The Brennan Group; James C. Bruce, Jr. PhD; Andrew Corsini, partner, KPMG, LLP; Tyra Manning, retired Superintendent of District 90 River Forest Public Schools, and Oak Park resident Ingrid Pearson.

Retiring from the board of directors in 2004 were Jeffrey N. Blaine, Rogene Hill, Dwight Austin, Frank Muriello, Mikal Rasheed, and Robert Rounds.

Continuing in their roles as honorary members of the board of directors are Mrs. Irvin E Poplett and the Reverend F. Dean Lueking. Retiring from the honorary board of directors is Mrs. Irvin E. Houck.

The evening was also an opportunity to highlight the efforts of one particularly valuable volunteer. Family Service presented its Board Liaison to the Economy Shop Mrs. Alice Marshall with the Family Service Volunteer Achievement Award for her years of dedication. The Economy Shop is a volunteer-driven resale shop that directs its proceeds to local nonprofits, including Family Service. Mrs. Marshall has been volunteering in the shoe room of the Economy Shop since 1982, and has been Family Service’s Representative and Chairperson since 1987. In her role as Chairperson, she has generated over $200,000 for Family Service programs.
