Ways to Financially Support Family Service Cash:Cash gifts are the most common gifts. Your gift before December 31 of each year could mean you pay less at tax time. Call the development office at 708-383-7500 to receive additional information about specific programs such as annual support and commemorative giving. Securities: Stocks, bonds, money market funds, etc. are one of the most advantageous ways of giving. If you give appreciated stock you have owned for more than a year, you may deduct the full market value as a charitable contribution. Real Estate: You may deduct the full fair-market value as a charitable contribution, provided you have owned the property for more than a year. Insurance: When you make Family Service the owner and beneficiary of your paid-up life insurance policy, your charitable contribution is generally the replacement value or cost-basis of the policy, whichever is less. Premiums paid on a gifted life insurance policy also qualify for a charitable deduction. Personal Property: Gifts related to Family Service's exempt purposes are fully tax deductible at fair-market value. Gifts which are not related to Family Service's tax exempt purposes are limited to the cost basis for determining our deduction. Charitable Trust: The charitable trust offers tax savings while providing an annual income to you or your family. The charitable trust is funded with an asset, such as appreciated property or securities, which may be sold by the trust and the proceeds reinvested to produce greater yield for you. Charitable Gift Annuity: The gift annuity is among the oldest, simplest, and most popular ways to make a retained-income charitable gift. It is a combination gift and investment. In exchange for a transfer of cash or marketable securities, Family Service will contractually guarantee a lifetime payment of a specific annuity amount to the donor and/or a beneficiary. Estate Planning: Making Family Service a beneficiary in your will is a simple but very important way to leave a legacy for the families of Oak Park and River Forest. You may consider leaving your assets in trust, assigning the income to one or two beneficiaries and the trust principal to Family Service. Other Forms of Giving: There are a variety of plans which can bring immediate benefits to you, including family business gifts, and commemorative or memorial gifts. All forms of giving may be unrestricted gifts to the agency or restricted to our general endowment fund or one of our specific funds. Please call the development office at 708-383-7500 Ext. 104, for additional information on gifts to Family Service.
